I trained in Medicine at Kings College, London. Following postgraduate psychiatric training at the Maudsley Hospital and three years as a university lecturer in clinical psychiatry at Charing Cross and Westminster medical school, I have been a consultant psychiatrist since 1996, initially as general adult and liaison psychiatrist at St Mary’s Hospital and in recent years as a liaison psychiatrist at University College London Hospital.
Following retirement from the NHS, I continue to work as an honorary consultant liaison psychiatrist at University College London Hospital where I have a clinic within the gastroenterology department.
I have broader experience over the full range of psychiatric disorders, in their assessment and management, working in cooperation and alongside colleagues in therapy disciplines.
My main focus of interest is in the treatment of patients with mood disorders, and in those with a combination of psychological and functional physical health symptoms.
In earlier years I published in the area of schizophrenia research, but more recently have carried out audit work in liaison psychiatry, the interaction of functional symptoms and mental health in gastroenterology and the presentation of alcohol problems in the general hospital.
